Ek gaan dus plek-plek my beste contralto uithaal.

History:

Over the past seven years, Sarah and the Gugs’ paths crossed frequently at functions they were booked for. And so these five exceptional singers got to know each other behind the scenes and the mutual desire to ‘do something together’, at long last became reality.
Sarah and the four Gugs are old school and strive for excellence in their diversity.
While the Gugulethu Tenors have been together for 14 years, Sarah’s first professional one-woman-show in 1991, earned her The Vita award for Best Newcomer. SARAH THERON & the GUGULETHU TENORS is built around “who and what they are and where they come from.”

Proudly Cape Townian and Proudly South African:

The show is presented in three languages, namely Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa comprising of music and linking script – thus concert format. The show centres largely around group numbers, as “the magic happens in the ensemble.” This does not mean that the audience won’t be treated to solo surprises.

Who and How:

The company members are Sarah, Mpendulo, Loyiso, Jabu & Xolani, accompanied by Lucas Heinen on piano/accordion. Some of the songs have backing track arrangements used with Lucas’ accompaniment. The performance area on stage is indicated with lighting (no set) and only 5 bar stools are placed upstage and 5 mic stands downstage. On the left is Lucas, but not removed from the singers, since he is an integral member of the ensemble.

The Show:

The feel – Classic-with-Soul. SARAH THERON & the GUGULETHU TENORS boasts various genres to ensure each and every member of the audience their favourite moment. This show aims to make local theatre goers proud, while it welcomes the visitor and gives him or her a taste of our South African music treasures, also giving well-known international hits a unique South African treatment!
